Founded in 1923 previously under the name Richmond Postal Credit Union, Credit Union of Richmond takes pride in providing members with a comfortable environment that is accessible, encourages thrift, maintains financial stability and prepares for future growth. Furthermore, we engage in programs that are beneficial to our members and the credit union environment.
All in all, we are based north of the museum district in the city of Richmond, Virginia. Altogether, membership is open to anyone that lives, works, worships, attends school or volunteers in the Richmond Metropolitan Statistical Area.

What is a Credit Union?
Credit Union of Richmond is different from your traditional bank because we are a not-for-profit financial cooperative that is owned and controlled by our members. This means that we are able to charge lower fees and offer better rates on loans and deposits compared to other financial institutions. In addition, we are committed to giving back to the communities where we work and live.
Like other credit unions, we focus on our members, not profits. Our assets are federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). The NCUA is the strongest federal insurance agency in the country.
In addition, we are a state-chartered credit union regulated by the Bureau of Financial institutions (BFI) which is a regulatory division of the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC).
