Our History & Mission
Welcome to Credit Union of Richmond, Virginia’s longest continuously operating credit union. We are a member-owned financial cooperative that is dedicated to building members dreams by offering quality personalized services that go above and beyond to fulfill your financial needs.
We were originally charted in 1923 as a credit union to serve postal employees located in the Richmond area. Since then, the credit union has stood by our members every step of the way, and been a trusted financial partner. During the Great Depression, Credit Union of Richmond stood strong as one of the few banks that stayed open and operational. We acquired another credit union which served the Greater Richmond Transit Company (GRTC) employees in 2006.
Credit Union of Richmond has always offered our members an amazing experience and exceptional products and services. However, we decided to change our name in 2017 to Credit Union of Richmond to increase awareness in the Richmond area. Additionally, the credit union realized our community would benefit from a membership expansion. Therefore, we expanded our membership eligibility to include the Richmond VA Metropolitan Statistical Area in 2021.
